Georgios Liakopoulos, Ph.D.

Georgios Liakopoulos studied History at the University of Athens (BA, 1999) and Ottoman History at Bilkent University in Ankara (MA, 2002). In 2009 he obtained a doctorate in Ottoman History from Royal Holloway, University of London. He taught Modern Turkish Language (2010-13) and Ottoman History and Palaeography (2016-18) at the University of Athens. His publications are mainly focused on the Ottoman inscriptions in Greece, the edition of Ottoman archival material, and the historical geography/demography of the Greek Lands under Ottoman rule.

As a senior postdoctoral researcher at the MPI ‘Byzantine Resilience’ Independent Research Group he is examining the Ottoman and Venetian land and population surveys pertaining to the Peloponnese in the 15^th-18^th centuries; the findings of this study will be then collated with the environmental data from pollen sites in the region.
