Dr. Corentin Bochaton
Main Focus
Corentin’s research focused on past reptiles and their interactions with human populations. He is also interested by the study of impact of past human populations on their environment using reptiles as a proxy. His research is at the crossroad of Paleontology, Zooarchaeology and Evolutionary Sciences and includes the use of several methods (classical zooarchaeology, descriptive paleontology, paleohistology and, traditional and geometric morphometrics).
Curriculum Vitae
Corentin Bochaton received a B. A. in Archaeology from the University of Lyon in 2011 and an M. S. in Quaternary Sciences and Prehistory from the National museum of natural History of Paris in 2013. In 2016 he completed his doctoral dissertation in which he explored the Pleistocene and Holocene diversity of snakes and lizards fauna from the Guadeloupe islands (French West-Indies) and the interactions of these animals with human populations from pre-Columbian times to nowadays.
After the completion of its PhD he pursue his research in the Caribbean area by studying material from other islands and by conducting fieldworks in order to complete our knowledge about the mostly extinct terrestrial fauna of this region.
In 2017 Corentin was awarded a two years FYSSEN foundation fellowship to join the Department of Archaeology. His postdoctoral research seeks to understand the subsistence economy of Hoabinhian Hunter-Gatherers populations occurring in South-East Asia between Late Pleistocene and 3000 B. P. though the zooarchaeological study of reptile remains found in archaeological deposits.
